A Look at Southpaw’s Puppy and Kitten Packages

Nothing brings a home to life like a new addition — like a puppy or kitten, of course! And over the past couple of years, many people have welcomed puppies and kittens into their lives, which is great, because there are a lot of animals out there that need homes. As one of San Diego’s newest veterinarians, we’re always happy to see that a puppy or kitten has found a loving family!

Consider this: More than 4 million animals are adopted from shelters annually. That amounts to roughly 2 million dogs, and 2 million cats, according to data from the ASCPA. That doesn’t even really capture the number of new cats and dogs that are born each year, too, as many homes welcome puppies and cats into their fold from a variety of sources — they get them from friends, etc.

No matter where your new puppy or kitten came from, they’re now a part of your family. As such, you’ll want to make sure they’re happy, healthy, and safe. A good way to make sure they’re living their best life is to bring them to a veterinarian early and regularly. Whether you plan on hitting the beach with your pup at some point, or simply want to make sure they’re handling the summer heat as they should, bringing your new pet in for a visit is never a bad idea.

Southpaw’s Puppy and Kitten Packages

Make no mistake about it, puppies and kittens are a handful. Despite their small size, they’re a big responsibility, and that means that they’re getting all of their required vaccines, seeing a vet to make sure they’re growing and developing properly, and potentially much more.

Southpaw offers a comprehensive, cost-effective way to make sure your puppy or kitten is getting everything they need through our respective Puppy and Kitten Packages. Here’s what’s included:

About Our Microchips

Implanting a microchip in a dog or cat may sound like something from a sci-fi movie, but it’s incredibly common, and there are many advantages to it. It’s a pretty easy process to implant it, too — we simply inject the microchip under your pet’s skin using a hypodermic needle. It’s just like getting a shot. No surgery is needed!

As for what the microchip actually is and what it does? It’s a small chip in a glass cylinder that’s roughly the size of a grain of rice. There’s no battery, and veterinarians can access the information on it by using a special scanner. It doesn’t contain a GPS tracking device, but they do contain identification numbers, which can be stored in databases and allow veterinarians and other professionals to reference your pet’s medical history (note: there’s often additional costs to store your pet’s registration numbers in those databases).

So, you can get your pet chipped, but you’ll also need to register and pay to store the data. That may sound like a pain, but if your pet gets lost and is scanned, a veterinarian or other professional may be able to track you down and contact you by using the information stored in the database by scanning your pet’s chip.
Another plus: Our microchips have a built-in thermometer! That provides a quick, non-invasive way to get a read on your pet’s internal temperature.

Your puppy or kitten deserves the best possible care you can provide. We can help you get started on the right paw — and help make sure your pet stays happy and healthy.
